Jitalla, friends! This post will be a little different from previous ones, in that I need your help to make a decision.
Before I launched Cabalian Games, I spent a lot of time (and a decent bit of money) putting together an AI-generated audiobook for the Secrets of Shadowcrest through ElevenLabs. It was an interesting process, but at the end of the day, I didn't believe the quality was good enough to make it commercially available.
Recently, though, a good friend of mine listened to it and thought otherwise. I can be something of a self-perfectionist who is overly critical of his work, so I would like to get some more feedback. Many people only listen to audiobooks, so it would open a lot of doors if I could provide an audio version of my work. On the other hand, the last thing I want to do is release a shabby product.
I've released a sample of the book in an unlisted YouTube video, available only at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vawPoFb030
If you are into audiobooks, please give it a listen and answer the poll below. I'm only interested in honest feedback, so don't be afraid to say you didn't like it if you found any issues. In the worst case, I'll just have to save up the money to hire a professional voice actor, which I would prefer a lot more than publishing something of poor quality.
The average price for an audiobook as large as mine would be between $20 and $30. If you think the quality of this ElevenLabs version is worth that price, then please let me know through the poll below. Thank you all so much!
How would you rate the voice quality of the ElevenLabs Audiobook sample?
Fantastic! I'd totally pay for the full story!
Pretty Good. It has a few flaws, but I still enjoy it.
Decent. It's not the greatest, but it's not the worst.
Meh. I've heard a lot better.
